Inspirational Member of the Month

Congratulations to Lincs Inspire Member of the Month for May – Rachel Fawsitt!

Having not been in a pool for over 40 years, Rachel restarted swimming lessons in October last year, whizzing through her first three stages. Her certificates take pride of place at home on the mantlepiece…now she has another award to celebrate!

Rachel jumps at every opportunity to be in the water. She has an adult learning disability and attends disability swimming at Grimsby Pool on Mondays, as well as public swimming at Cleethorpes Leisure Centre, where she enjoys the waves, aqua slide and jumping in the pool.

She’s progressed through the Swim England framework, currently working her way through Stage 4, where she can now swim 400m unaided. She looks forward to lessons with her encouraging swim instructor Elaine.

Rachel has been a joy to teach. She strives to achieve in everything that is asked of her. Having gone from strength to strength she swims several times a week and is continuously building on her skills to progress them further.

Outside of the pool, Rachel enjoys riding the adapted bikes every Wednesday at Inclusive Sports, where she can be seen cycling circuits of the sports hall with the biggest smile on her face. Through the session she’s met Amy and the pair have become great friends, looking forward to weekly get togethers.

Rachel also joined us via our Active Forever programme and has lost over three stone in weight since starting in the gym at the Health & Wellbeing Centre! She loves riding the fitness bikes and completing the virtual workouts, riding through destinations all over the world.

Having recently completed an eight-week cookery course through the Care Plus Group Therapy Team, Rachel is also feeling healthier and happier for the changes in lifestyle.

Since she joined the leisure centre, Rachel’s health has improved so much. She is a shining example of what can be achieved with a ‘can do’ attitude.

Well done, Rachel. Keep up the great work!
