Calling All Creatives…

lowercase theatre presents: First Draft. A scratch night taking place in the Albert Room at Cleethorpes Library, celebrating new work and ideas across creative forms.

What is a scratch night?

A scratch night is an opportunity for creative folks to showcase new work, test new ideas, and receive feedback from friendly audiences. lowercase theatre think it’s so important to share and celebrate work at every stage of development – not just the finished product!

If you have a new piece of work that you’d love to try out in front of an audience, keep reading…

How does it work?

  • Submit a piece of new, original work. Submissions across different forms are encouraged – as long as they can be shared or performed on the night. Please see submission guidelines below for further details.
  • lowercase theatre will be selecting four pieces of new work to showcase at the scratch night.
  • Successful applicants will be invited to participate in two workshop sessions. lowercase theatre will support you to further develop and share your piece, in a way that you’d like it to be presented.
  • Successful submissions will receive a £200 fee. Please note: If you are applying as a group of creatives, we can still only offer you a £200 fee.

Submission Guidelines

  • You can apply to this opportunity as an individual, or as a group of creatives.
  • You don’t need to consider yourself an ‘artist’ to apply. This is open to anybody over the age of 16, who lives in (or has a connection to) North East Lincolnshire. If you have an idea, we’d love to hear it.
  • Submissions can represent any creative form – as long as it can be shared or performed on the night. Examples could include:
    • A collection of poems
    • A monologue
    • An excerpt from a script
    • A stand-up routine
    • A dance or movement piece
    • A collection of songs, or piece of music
  • Work submitted can be up to 20 minutes in length. (Your submission can be part of a longer piece, however we’ll only be showing up to 20 minutes on the Scratch Night).
  • Work must be original, and not a finished product. We are particularly interested in working with people who feel as though they could really benefit from support to develop their idea, and put it on stage.
