Special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) can affect a child or young person’s ability to learn, socialise and develop physically. View the Government’s website for further info.
Our services and activities are fully inclusive, and we also work in partnership with local health providers, the local authority and local organisations to deliver sports, leisure, libraries and entertainment services tailored to help meet these additional needs.
Sensory Shake, Rattle and Read
An adapted session of our popular Shake, Rattle and Read, Suitable for children 0 to 5 years with hearing/vision loss and other special educational needs.
We also recommend this session to babies as an introduction to our weekly Shake Rattle and Read sessions.
Join us for wonderful nursery rhymes and songs, story time and play with sensory toys.
The session includes all the usual songs, dances, music, sensory toys and props. It is fully signed in BSL and Makaton and adapted to aid speech and language development. Additional support for parents/caregivers is available.
The session also includes use of our sensory room and unlike the main Shake, Rattle & Read sessions, there is time for free play and for parents to chat over a cuppa.

Sensory Room
A quiet and calm space within Cleethorpes Library packed full of sensory equipment and toys, that is set up just for you.
Resources include:
- A pop up sensory pod
- Astronaut star projector
- Soothing objects
- Play mats
- Liquid tiles
- Sensory fidget tubes
- A bouncing hippo
- Infinity mirror tunnel
- White noise machine
- Weighted blanket
The room is also fitted with Sound Clouds – ceiling sound absorbers reducing echo and reverberations for optimal acoustics.
SEND Collection
Lincs Inspire Libraries offer a collection of health and SEND books chosen by children, adults, parents, carers and professionals.
Books are aimed at those with dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD, autism, Asperger’s and many more learning difficulties.
