Fabulous Wellbeing Fayre
Resdients seek to give something back at a wellbeing fayre next month, praising the support the leisure centres have given them.
Phil Taylor and Georgina Cable are regular users of Grimsby Leisure Centre’s Health and Wellbeing site, following health referrals on to the Lincs Inspire Active Forever programme.
Phil started exercising in the gym earlier this year and has since seen an improvement to his physical and mental health.
“Joining here has been life-changing. If you invest a bit of your time, the benefits are phenomenal. I’ve managed to lose weight, make friends and feel healthier. Where else would you find that? You can’t find it on the high street; it’s not sold in a shop.” Phil explained.
Fellow member Georgina enjoys using the specialist exercise equipment at the centre’s Wellness Hub, which support gentle movement by working with the user. She’s also recently completed the Lincs Inspire eight-week weight management programme. Georgina said:
Taking the first step has opened doors that I never thought it would. I wanted to get out the house in the winter months and lose a bit of weight. Coming here [Grimsby Health & Wellbeing Centre] has lightened everything and the staff help in all sorts of ways.
Phil and Georgina will share their positive experiences and welcome others to a Wellbeing Fayre at the original Grimsby Leisure Centre on October 5, supporting Age UK’s national campaign Silver Sunday.
Hosted by Lincs Inspire, the free event will showcase the wealth of support available from a range of community organisations and empower people to lead active, healthy and happy lives.
Organiser, Ian Shorley-Harlow said: “We’ve got lots of fun activities planned! Everything from boosting your mood with an energetic dance class to channelling your zen with a calming Tai Chi session. Take a guided tour of the centre, chat to our friendly team and discover some fab community organisations. It’s all completely free, we hope you can join us!”
Guest speakers from Alzheimer’s UK, Stroke Association and Hello Mind will share valuable insight and wellbeing wisdom. Periville Pharmacy will be offering blood pressure tests, and free flu and COVID vaccines for eligible patients over 18.
