“New Crop” of Creative Talent

Northern Lincolnshire writers reap the fruits of their labours, as the culmination of a two-year project sees their short stories published in a new book.

The anthology, titled “New Crop”, celebrates the work of eight local writers, who formed part of a creative writing workshop at Cleethorpes Library.

Led by workshop leader Gordon Wilson, the newly published authors have met monthly since 2023, exploring the characteristics of short fiction forms and developing their individual writing practices.

Gordon said: “Each writer has taken bold and courageous artistic risks in the creation of their own pieces, which they shared for mutually supportive critique. That co-operative process has brought them to the stage where they now confidently reap what they have sown and present their work through this anthology.”

Friends and family gathered for the launch of the book in the Albert Room at Cleethorpes Library on Tuesday June 17, with writers sharing excerpts of their work.

Gordon added: “It has been a privilege and a joy to support this new crop of Northern Lincolnshire writers in workshops. I’ve found much pleasure in reading their work and hope others will too.”

The front cover of the book was designed by local artist Sarah Palmer, layout and printing by Paul Davy and publishing by La Luna Books.

Available to buy from Cleethorpes Library, copies of the book cost £5 each. “New Crop” is also available to borrow from Cleethorpes, Immingham and Waltham Libraries and via the Lincs Inspire Library eLibrary App – Libby.

The creative workshops were part of a three-year Arts Council England funded programme, which started back in July 2022. Led by Lincs Inspire, the programme has seen local, regional and national artists and authors entertain audiences at Cleethorpes Library with workshops and events.
