Maverick Peaks Ultra Marathon
Cleethorpes Fitness Instructor Embraces Epic Endurance Challenge
Hayley Strachan (34) is set to take on a gruelling 101km race in the Peak District National Park this weekend, as she attempts to complete The Maverick Peaks Ultra Marathon.
The Fitness Instructor at Cleethorpes Leisure Centre will swap the treadmill for the trails as she seeks her first Ultra Marathon medal in support of Women’s Aid.
The long-distance event challenges runners to traverse mixed terrain and summit the highest peaks in national park, with a total elevation of 2840m.
Hayley, a former under 17s county athletics champion has competed in races up to half marathon distance, recently completing the Scunthorpe Half and Humber Bridge Half.
Fuelled with energy gels and protein bars, Hayley will embark on the epic challenge at 6:30am this Saturday. She’ll aim to pass several check points within 18 hours, with friends and family tracking her progress every step of the way through GPS.
I needed this challenge to push my limits. Running is my meditation, my feel-good place. I’m running for Grimsby charity – Women’s Aid. These centres provide invaluable support and resources to those who are desperately in need, offering a lifeline to women facing difficult circumstances. Their work is endless and precious, making a profound difference in our community. Thanks to everyone who’s supported me and this cause so far.
