Community Minded Trustee

Involving and empowering communities is at the front of our thinking.

Did you know that as a social business, we are led by a Board of Trustees who are from our local community?

Charles Lumley is one of our newest trustees and has firmly established connections to the town.

Charles himself is a successful entrepreneur, having launched the Cleethorpes craft beer shop and bar – Message in a Bottle – as well as being a co-founder of the ever-popular Docks Beers in Grimsby.

His maternal grandfather, Fredrick William Ward OBE, served as Town Clerk and Chief Executive for over 31 years. He was one of the earliest campaigners of the town’s industrial base, the South Humber Bank. Through the growth of industry here, the port town was protected from the severe repercussions stemming from the continued decline of the fishing industry. His legacy lives on in Grimsby today and a major road in the town has been named in his honour.

Charles’ father’s family established Lumley’s car garage. Originally on Brereton Avenue, Cleethorpes. It later moved to larger premises at Gilbey Road in Grimsby.

Both sides of his family’s belief and ongoing contribution to the area have been significant and they continue to play an active role in the community.

After studying and living away for some years, Charles moved back to the area with his wife, and launched his business ventures whilst raising a family. Along with his local commercial roles, Charles also works for NHS England, bringing further skills to the board’s expertise.

Running my own small business in the area and working in large, national public sector teams has given me some useful experience at both ends of the corporate spectrum. My current role within the NHS is focused on compliance and assurance, but for many years I was responsible for performance management. These are areas that I hope to help Lincs Inspire with.

My wife and I are both from the area so even when living away we would regularly be back visiting friends and family (coincidentally this was often when Grimsby Town were playing at home!).

Raising a young family, I’m keen to ensure that children in the town have access to quality activities and opportunities. I also want to encourage people to try new things, learn new skills, grow and develop – it’s a huge part of what Lincs Inspire is all about and so I’m delighted to be a part of their journey.

I am proud of this area and its community. There is huge potential here and I am excited to be part of an organisation that can make genuine improvements to people’s lives and wellbeing.

Lincs Inspire Limited is overseen by a Board of Trustees; independent members from the community and business sectors who share their expertise to guide the company forward.

Supporting the company in a voluntary role, they approve our annual report and accounts, which look at our performance over the past year.
