MEET THE HEROS
The Astronaut
About: Left earth with one book and made it last his three year journey. Now he reads anything to fill the silence between the stars – instructions, manuals, cereal boxes… etc. The astronaut loves to read because he believes every book is a small planet you can land on in your imagination.
Strengths: Endurance – can read for hours without losing focus
Weakness: Gets lost in pictures – one good illustration and twenty minutes vanishes
The Robot
About: Built to sort books but learned to love them instead. Reads with careful, whirring attention and always finishes what they start. Files every story they read in a special memory drawer marked “KEEP”.
Strengths: Never skips a page – not even the acknowledgements.
Weakness: Doesn’t understands jokes yet – comedic books take twice as long to read
The Witch
About: Learned everything she knows from books; which is why she is so good at potions and spells. She most likes to read at night next to candlelight as she finds it very relaxing. She loves learning new words to add to her vocabulary – she is the best speller on the team.
Strengths: Brilliant at reading aloud – voices, cackles, the works
Weakness: Only reads one genre if you let her – she is yet to discover the magic of different genres
The Android
About: Discovered a battered old adventure book in a scrapyard and has been chasing the feeling ever since. Reads super fast, then reads it all again but slower. Collects favourite sentences the way other people collect figurines.
Strength: Speed – can power through a chapter while others are finding their bookmark
Weakness: Reads so quickly they have to go back and check what happened again.
