Lifeguard Competing at National Level

The English National Swimming Championships beckons for Callum Nurse, a lifeguard at Grimsby Leisure Centre and another local swimmer who started his journey swimming with Lincs Inspire!

Callum joins the country’s top swimmers this weekend at Ponds Forge in Sheffield to compete in the English National Swimming Championships in 50, 100 and 200-metre breaststroke.

He learnt to swim at Immingham pool, progressing to ‘black hats’ before joining Grimsby Aquatics Swim Team (GAST) where medals soon followed at county and regional competitions.

After covid and the closure of GAST following the covid pandemic, Callum joined Cleethorpes and District Swimming (CADS), where he continued his success in breaststroke, competing at Winter Nationals, English Nationals and the British Summer Championships.

This year Callum was selected to compete at the Swedish Grand Prix Swim Championships with Swim England as part of his DiSE (Diploma in Sporting Excellence) qualification, which he has been studying alongside A levels.

Callum’s advice for any young swimmer wishing to follow in his footsteps:

Always put in 100 per cent but have fun too. I hope to continue swimming at Uni and aim to compete in the British Championships in the future.”

Callum hopes to continue his swimming journey at Manchester Metropolitan University in September and has secured a place in the Manchester Aquatics National Swim Team.

Amazing progress, talent and determination from another local swimmer who we wish all the success.
