Wellbeing Fayre
Less than one year on from a community fayre, the life of one Grimsby resident has been changed for the better.
Having just moved to the area in 2023, Glenn Ratten (77) was looking for new activities to get involved in. Around this time, he saw the free community wellbeing event advertised at Grimsby Leisure Centre.
Hosted by Lincs Inspire, the Wellbeing Fayre took place for the first time in October last year, bringing the whole community together to encourage and support local people to lead active, healthy and happy lives.
Twelve months on, Glenn now has an action-packed social calendar, attending Chair Yoga and Evergreens on a Monday, where he plays badminton and takes part in Zumba. On Wednesdays he attends another Dance class at Bradley Football Development Centre before heading to Senior Circuits at Cleethorpes. On Friday, it’s back to Cleethorpes for his second Senior Circuits class of the week!

Glenn believes that the social side is just as important as getting the exercise, explaining:
I’m a talkative person and we have socials where we get together outside of the leisure centre. My family are so pleased I’m doing all of this. I’m no problem to anybody. I can always find a job to do, but it’s nice when you can socialise and do it with other people that I’ve met through Lincs Inspire.
Following the success of last year’s Wellbeing Fayre, the free event returns on Sunday October 6, 10am to 3pm at the original Grimsby Leisure Centre, with a wide range of taster sessions, activities, talks and information from community organisations.
Organiser, Ian Shorley-Harlow said: “Glenn’s story is inspirational! It shows the wellbeing benefits of keeping active and socialising. This year’s fayre promises to be even bigger and better than last, with more fantastic organisations, tours of the specialist power-assisted exercise equipment in our Wellness Hub, Dementia Friends training from our friends at Alzheimer’s Society and much more! We hope to see you there!”
