"Coming here has changed my life!"
In the last year, Julie Austin has achieved weight loss goals and learned to use fitness equipment she never thought she would. Her outstanding progress sees her awarded member of the month!
Following several long-term health challenges, Julie joined Lincs Inspire in 2023 when her GP referred her to the Active Forever programme.
Initially starting in the Wellness Hub, the power-assisted exercise machines were able to provide gentle movement that helped ease her arthritis in her hip and shoulders, as well as her slipped disc in her back.
The introduction of exercise into her routine was also able to help her lose weight and start to feel good about herself, which had a massive positive effect on her mental health.
Coming here has changed my life! I’m feeling much more positive and it’s helping to ease some of the aches and pains. I’ve made some wonderful friends and feel supported every step of the way. I have two amazing grandkids and thanks to here, I can make the most of my time with them.
Before long, Julie was progressing to our fitness classes and now is a regular at structured circuits in the gym at Grimsby Health & Wellbeing Centre.
Fitness Instructor Jody Cass noticed the progress Julie had made and nominated her for the member of the month award. Jodie said: “In just fourteen months, Julie has grown so much in confidence – at first, she came with her sister, but now she’s completely independent and comfortable coming on her own.
“When she first started, rowing, cycling and squatting were all off limits. But now her arthritis has eased, she can bend her knees to use the machines. She’s an inspiration and worthy member of the month – Well done Julie!”
