Mission Accomplished

Well done to our leisure members Stu, Malc, Washo, Rich and Neil, for completing their English channel relay swim (55km) in 11 hours 45 minutes.

After two years of planning, training and determination, ‘The Backstroke Boys’, who are all regular swimmers at Lincs Inspire pools, completed their epic challenge in aid of local homelessness charity Harbour Place.

Battling rough seas, jellyfish, seasickness, cramp and strong tides along the way, the team swam for 11 hours and 45 minutes before reaching France.

Team member Neil Parker said: “It was one of the toughest challenges we have ever faced, but also one of the most rewarding. Most importantly, together we have raised more than £11,000 for Harbour Place.

“We chose Harbour Place because of the incredible work they do supporting people facing homelessness and housing difficulties across our community. Our fundraising target of £6,000 was set to help provide breakfasts throughout the year for people who rely on their support. To have reached and exceeded that target makes all the hard work worthwhile.

“A huge thank you to the more than 250 people who donated and supported us throughout this challenge. Your generosity, encouragement and messages helped carry us across the Channel.”

“Special thanks to our friends at Grimsby & Cleethorpes Water Rats, our home club, and to our sponsors and supporters: Dunlop Oil & Marine, Lovelle Estate Agency, Holidays by Design, Humber Instruments, Greypen Ltd, Roost Estate Agents, Lincs Inspire and Physio Works and many more.

“A special thank you also goes to Kenny, our crewman and supporter, whose help throughout the challenge was invaluable.

“Finally, thank you to our families, friends, colleagues and everyone who supported us from the very beginning.”

Massive well done to the team – Stu, Malc, Washo, Rich and Neil on their achievement.
