Much-Loved Lifeguard Retires

An emotional day sees the team at Grimsby pool gather to wish long-standing and much-loved lifeguard, Bev Barratt, future happiness in her retirement.

Celebrating Bev's Career

Bev started back in 1999 as casual lifeguard at Scartho Baths. She loved the people and job so much that shortly after this she took on a full-time position.

After ten happy years in the lifeguarding chair, a new challenge presented itself when Bev became a qualified swim teacher under the instruction of Mo Brocklesby and Sheila Houghton, helping children and adults develop a love for swimming.

In 2015 Bev gained her gym instructing qualification, making her one of the most versatile members of staff across the company.

I’ve loved every minute! People who know me, know my passion is teaching and making others smile. I’d like to thank all my colleagues – there are too many people to name, but they know who they are! Over the years, we’ve helped many members reach their goals and saved many lives.

Working here has given me so much confidence and independence. It’s given me the opportunity to grow into the person I am today, which is what I try to inspire in others.

Super Swim Fit!

Since moving to Grimsby Pool, Bev has taught weekly Swim Fit classes, helping people of all ages and abilities improve their fitness and confidence in the water. It’s a supportive and sociable group of like-minded members who’ve all become good friends.

The team at the pool will miss Bev’s cheerful personality from poolside. Darren Smith, Operations Officer said: “I’ve had the pleasure with working with Beverley for 25 years, her professionalism, knowledge, and enthusiasm has been an asset to our lifeguarding team.

“Thankfully, Beverley is still going to continue with her Swim Fit on Thursday morning so it’s not all sad news. The team and I wish you all the best on your new adventure!”

Bev plans to enjoy her retirement with plenty of walking, running and swimming, as well as learning fluent French!

Thank you for your years of service Bev, we wish you a well-earned and happy retirement.
