The XP Reading Marathon

Win prizes with the XP Reading Marathon!

Lincs Inspire Libraries is launching its XP Reading Marathon on Monday 5th October. Players can complete missions, earn experience points, complete the levels and win prizes.

Running until Monday 14th December, the free challenge turns reading into a game. Players start at Level 1 and earn XP by borrowing and reading books, completing challenges and attending bonus XP events, such as Lego Building, Special Bingo and Family Board Game drop-ins. The more points readers collect, the higher they climb, unlocking new missions and bigger prizes on the way to becoming a Master Reader.

The XP Reading Marathon is a fun and free way to keep children reading through the autumn term. Regular reading builds vocabulary, confidence and concentration. The game-style missions encourage young readers to try new authors and genres they might not otherwise pick up. Earning points and unlocking levels gives children a real sense of achievement and the score card makes it easy to celebrate progress at home. It is also a great opportunity to visit Lincs Inspire Libraries as a family and discover everything else it has to offer.

“We wanted to show young people that reading can be every bit as exciting as their favourite game. The XP Reading Marathon is all about trying something new – a different author, a genre you’ve never picked up before and being rewarded for it. Whether you’re a speed reader or someone who loves to take their time, there’s a mission for everyone and we can’t wait to see who makes it to Master Reader.”

Kim Rothman, Development Officer

The marathon is open to library members aged up to 16 at Cleethorpes, Grimsby (Freshney Place), Immingham and Waltham libraries. To take part children need to visit the library desk to collect a personal score card.

Children not already signed up to the library can register online and collect their score card in a library branch.

Along the way, readers can meet the XP Heroes: the Astronaut, the Robot, the Witch and the Android – each with their own reading strengths, weaknesses and favourite book to inspire the next adventure!
